Resettlement Worker

Summary of Post

Provide one to one and group support to the refugees, asylum seekers and other clients of CHARIS to assist them in their resettlement and integration into life in the UK.

Role reports to: Operations Director

Working Hours: 24 hours per week | Salary: £26,000 - £27, 500 FTE. 

Location: Taunton based

Key internal relations: CEO, Communications and External Affairs Director, Taunton Centre Manager, Resettlement Workers, Immigration Advisor and Volunteers

Key external relations: Somerset Council, Community Council of Somerset, other statutory services, local VCFSEs, charities and other refugee organisations

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Resettlement Support for Displaced Persons

  •  This role will provide resettlement support for displaced people across all CHARIS cohorts and programmes, including the Taunton Welcome Hub.

  • Provide advice, information and guidance on resettlement and integration issues for all displaced people.

  • Signpost individuals to relevant organisations, statutory bodies and other charities for specific issues and support and assist them to gain access to services.

  • Advocate for individuals in specific situations to help them get the services they require.

  • Promote independence and integration, and encourage empowerment, ensuring understanding of processes and life in the UK, helping to bridge cultural differences.

  • Work as a part of the Resettlement Team, within CHARIS and in support of other partner Welcome Hubs; contribute to development of best practice amongst the team and the wider Welcome Hub network.

  • Reporting on services provided (i.e. KPIs.)


General Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the strategic development of CHARIS’s services and activities for all displaced people across Somerset.

  • Support the development of mutually beneficial and constructive external relationships with key organisations associated with the main areas of support provided.

  • Ensure all support and service provided is in line with CHARIS values and is compliant with CHARIS policies and procedures including safeguarding, data protection, confidentiality, and health & safety.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Direct experience of supporting refugees and vulnerable clients on a one to one basis

  • Good knowledge of where to signpost clients for external services

  • Aligned with our values

  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills

  • Sensitive and able to handle and manage confidential issues

  • Excellent ability to network, develop and maintain good relationships

  • Strong initiator and self-starter, highly motivated

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to work flexibly, with occasional evening and weekend working, and occasional external appointments
